Display Brightness after Display has been switched off

Hello,
since some weeks I have the following problem:

After 10 minutes without doing anything on my netbook the display switches off. If I try to reactivate it by pushing a key, I can see the desktop for a very short time. The display brightness (or background light?)  immediately switches to a minimum. I have no chance to get my desktop back. Neither hitting any key, nor switch to the tty. I must restart the netbook.

Any ideas? Is there any logfile where i can find related infos? In the  Xorg.0.log I can't see any infos.

Under gnome I don't have this problem, so I guess it's xfce4.

Re: Display Brightness after Display has been switched off

Do you have xfce4-power-manager running? If so, try to disable dpms.
