[Solved] Sudden failure of a few things

All has been fine for a couple of years (I love xfce) but today a couple things just failed.
No event, no big install, no reboot, it just stopped working.
I hope to find some clues as to what I need to kick. Maybe they are related.

1. The names of my workspaces reset.  When I go into the Settings/Workspaces they are there, but they don't appear in the desktop menu. Editing them does not set them.

2. My keyboard shortcuts stopped working. Under Settings/Keyboard/Application Shortcuts I have a number of keys defined to do things, like run 'wmctrl -a Shell' etc.
They don't work. They still show up in the settings. Typing the command on the console works.
Very annoying.

Is there some service that might not be running?
Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Depends on the version you're running, in 4.6 and 4.8 you need to start xfce4-settings-helper.

Whoa!  Awesome dude!  That was it! It works now.
I'm so happy! Thank you very much.
I wonder how it stopped running, but I'll be sure it's in the startup.
