Hello there,
I used an xubuntu 11.04 live cd today to check out xfce4.8 in a more consistent manner.
I really like it, but what surprised me a bit:
1) the sound mixer looks way more complex than what I am used from gnome/kde.
I would have hoped for the same things that the "audio preferences enable:
a) an easy way to set profiles for my audio devices (like "off", "duplex audio" ... )
b) an easy to select which input/output device to use
But the default xfce mixer shows me ... anything that is there, and then i have to
click "show controls" ...
Is there an easy solution to that?
2) Maybe more of a hardware question. Using the default open source graphics
driver that comes up with the xubuntu 11.04, I tried to connect to an external
projector. Worked pretty nice, only problem: the maximum external resolution
(for a projector) was like 1024x768 ... where I know that they work up to
1300xwhatever.
Using the nvidia driver, i could choose these resolutions ... any idea if that works
for the open source driver too?
(side note: my external monitor was setup to 1680x1050 just fine, and I am using an Lenovo W510 with an qudro fx 880M).

Answers are:
1a) pulse audio volume control
1b) not really, just the ugly ugly pulse audio controls
2) I installed disper; and connected it to certain key strokes.
That allows me to dock/undock my laptop ... and manually switch the display
to "internal" or "external". Not a 100% solution ... but good enough.
