I'm a new Xfce (4.8.0) user with Arch as the base distro. I come from a Gnome2 DE and don't like the new direction v3.0 has taken.
I must say that Xfce has come a long way in the few years since I spent some time with it! I have it tweaked to my version of perfection except this one issue.
What I'm trying to accomplish is set a stop on the right side of my desktop with a wide screen monitor. The stop is for full size window width. This is so I can dedicate that real estate on my desktop for my widgets, and have access to them all the time.
In gnome, I used a panel set to "right" and 180 pixels wide. With Xfce, I tried using a panel set to vertical, 15% length by 180 pixels size. but the max size seems to be 128 pixels wide.
I tried to edit the panel ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml file to 180, and even set to read only permission, but it changes the value back to some narrower setting upon restarting.
Is there a way to do this in Xfce?

A bit of reading the wiki revealed desktop margins. http://wiki.xfce.org/tips
Settings Manager > Workspaces & Margins > Margins
This is a better solution to what I am trying to accomplish with a panel.
