Namely it's the Public icon that has the arrow above it, it also has the Public folders correct icon which is good, can I get my other icons to display properly for Videos, Pictures etc etc? Arrow above or on doesn't matter once they are all the same.

Your picture is small, so I can hardly see whats happening there. But maybe your Public folder has an emblem (in the right bottom corner?) so the symlink icon is moved to a differnt corner to avoid overlap. I this is the normal Thunar behavior.
About the icons - I have the same problem in Xubuntu 11.4 - Videos, Pictures and Music folders are symlinks and the I get the default folder icon. But I don't have this bug in Linux Mint Debian Edition.

Sorry yeah, I was working on getting the a link to a properly sized image between my first post and now, and I've edited the original post to this effect.
I am using Nautilus instead but you are correct, it must be because of the emblem that the arrow is top right instead of bottom right, and that's fine, but why don't my other directories with have an emblem and symlink arrow top right also? The folders Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos all had emblems on them when they were in my home folder before, and because I'm not sure if I need them they are currently empty and on my desktop.
I think I did the exact same thing creating the symlinks for said folders as I did for Public, but if the icon is different I guess there's something I did different?
