#!/bin/hi *
After years of using KDE I switched to Xfce recently. And it's great! Won't go back!
However, I noticed that the nm-applet is not shown in the notification bar though it is launched. There ain't no problems with networking so far, it's just that I have to switch to KDE or Gnome in order to modifiy my network-manager settings, since I lack any place on the desktop to click on to have my network-config dialog pop up.
... and that's bit of a nuisance.
Other Icons appear as usual: Clementine, Opera, Skype, xfce-mount-info, network-traffic.monitor, CPU-monitor ...
Anyone has any ideas?

Is this is the "first" icon in the panel, it's a problem that has been fixed in the last release iirc, was related to has the frame disabled in the tray settings.

Hm, probably. How can I check icon ordering in xfce?

Make sure you run the latest panel version or enable the frame border in the notification area options.

That's the version I installed:
# eix -e xfce4-panel
[i] xfce-base/xfce4-panel
Available versions: 4.8.3 (~)4.8.4 (~)4.8.5 {debug}
Installed versions: 4.8.5(07:01:13 AM 06/22/2011)(-debug)
Homepage: http://www.xfce.org/projects/xfce4-panel/
Description: Panel for the Xfce desktop environment
I assume there's a newer one available ... maybe I check for some Gentoo XFCE Live Overlay somewhere ...
BTW: I enabled "Show Frame" in the notifcation area again ... but didn't reboot yet. I'll see.

So. I've installed the latest Git sources, but that didn't do it.
# xfce4-panel --version
xfce4-panel 4.9.0git-90e1508 (Xfce 4.10)

Still the nm-applet is not shown, though it's running
# ps aux | grep nm-applet
dyle 5876 0.0 0.6 857660 26260 ? Sl 12:18 0:00 nm-applet --sm-disable
root 6296 0.0 0.0 8732 896 pts/0 S+ 12:25 0:00 grep --colour=auto nm-applet
However worse, the Git sources now stopped to maximize my panels as before. Meaning: I have a XFCE Panel with the Window Buttons right in the middle. This panel should stretch horizontally up to 100% maximizing the Windows Buttons area. This stopped working and now only as much space as for the list buttons to show is reserved, thus shrinking the whole panel.

Was there anymore luck with this? I am having the same issue and now I can't connect to my Mobile Broadband modem. Currently I'm using wicd, on Gentoo + XFCE. NetworkManager and nm-applet are running, just can't see it inside the notification area.
Help please!!!
