Changing keyboard characters

[using xubuntu 10.04 - standard UK keyboard]

I've been reading about how to change shortcuts. I want to change a couple of keys... i know it's simple somehow but can't think what to do!

I'd really like to swap the square bracket keys [] and the round bracket keys () above 9 & 0 around - it's just that i never use square brackets and it's irritating doing shift all the time. I was hoping i could set up an alias for the bashrc file but haven't found anything.

Sorry to ask -- i'm sure it's quite simple. thanks
