How to disable file and directory icons from the desktop.

On the Fedora 14/Gnome 2 desktop, the icon display can be disable by removing the nautilus binary. On
xfce 4.6.5/Fedora 14 removing the file manager leaves me with no background (at least).. What I want to do it to make a clean desktop. Is this possible?

Sure, in the last tab of the desktop preferences, set 'Icon type' to 'None'.

Cheers,

Thanks, but ... I've tried this with 4.6.5, and (after re-login) the icons remain. Perhaps this is a problem with that version?
