Hi,
my environment:
XFCE: 4.8.0
lmsensors: sensors version 3.3.1 with libsensors version 3.3.1
hddtemp: version 0.3-beta15
xfce4-sensors-plugin: version 1.2.3
kernel: 2.6.32-131.6.1.el6.x86_64
I have download and install the newest lmsensor tar and the newest xfce4-sensors-plugin. The "sensors" application shows me the CPU temparatures:
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +44.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1: +44.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0002
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 2: +44.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0003
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 3: +45.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Also hddtemp works:
/dev/sda: Hitachi HTS545032B9A301: 35°C
But xfce4-sensors don't know any sensors, the sensor list is empty. The drop-down box "sensor type" ("Sensortyp" in german) is only filled with "ACPI". The Gnome applet "Hardware Sensor Monitor" registered all known sensors and values correct and works fine.
Is there a trick to get the xfce4-sensor(-applet) to work?
Thanks and regards,
Steffen

Hi,
I made a progress with this. sudo modprobe module helped.
1. I have noticed that Sensor-Viewer does not remember "update interval (seconds)".
2. Properties on Sensors Plugins ~ does not show any other module except ACPI - so it is not possible to change it like in Sensor-Viewer (but remember update insterval (seconds)).
thanks,
martin

I've just found the same thing. And, I can't use it as a panel plugin because it doesn't show up in the list. (Neither does clipman, but if I run the program from the Applications menu, it shows up on the panel where I want it, unlike the sensor applet.)

Any advice in this post is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I am a Fedora 16 user and I installed now xfce4-sensor with dep hddtemp, but it don't recognize it, only "temp1 and temp2" from "acpitz-0" in the dropdown menu (I suppose to be the cpu dual core).
I am only interested in my hdd temperature, but it don't show
From the dropdown menu the only options are acpitz-0 (temp1, temp2), nouveau-100 (temp1) and ACPI (empty).
Thanks for any help.

I have filed a bug on the lack of documentation for this, see https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8558 - my notes on how to get at sensors are there.

Hi,
As "AnotherUser" mentioned ... I have added my experience:
If drop-down box does not show any other sensors than ACPI - I had to run sudo sensors-detect and reboot and they showed up.
(maybe it is sufficient to do sudo /etc/init.d/module-init-tools restart ... I have little bit complicated sensor/psensor installation/s because I have compiled/installed the latest one from on-line versioning repository and it is going to be settled little bit differently).
Double-check if it works by command:$ sensors. Should showed all detected sensors.
Update interval is remembered if I do right-click on sensor panel plugin -> properties change it.
But it does not work if I double click on panel icon. Little bit confused me :-)
