Hello,
Is it me or does xfce has bad grapics. I'm using gnome 2 next to it, and watching the same video or picture seems to look better on gnome 2. when I'm using xfce the pictures and videos have something grey color but in gnome 2 it doesn't. I have checked the drivers but everything seems to be ok.
anyone noticed this?

I think some screenshots are welcomed ...
You can take a look at some screenshot desktop with Xfce here and see if there is the "grey color" effect ?

Xfce is NOT Xubuntu. Bugs in Xubuntu don't mean that Xfce is buggy ...

Here some pictures same problem.
I copied the pictures from arch topic, but you can see the terminal looks grey but the othere picture is clean.
The developers should fix this also the ugly fonts is a problem.
When in gnome 2 the pictures and video look very clean and hq, but in xfce they look like grey it hurts my eyes.

The snapshot is really small ... With what I see, it seems that you have 2 differents theme on Gnome and Xfce, that can explain why you have 2 colors.
The "ugly fonts" problem : impossible to see it with those small pictures ! Normally you can try to adjust font hinting and anti-aliasing by going to Setting Manager > Appearance > Fonts
The best for me is : Enable anti-aliasing, Hinting : Slight, Sub-pixel order : None, DPI : 110
Edit : and also if you have Arch linux, I have a lot of problem with font rendering on this distribution. It's not Xfce bug. You have to play with fonts you installed (otf or ttf) and select them manually.

You can see the ugly fonts I enabled anti aliasing and RGB i'm experienced linux user.
This seems to be a bug also the terminal above has better black color than the other you see.
I applied some ubuntu font patches and it seems to work better now why is this not included in xfce?
The fonts look better now but the pictures still seem to have some bad color.

For me, I don't really see the "better black color" ... On the upper picture, the terminal have opaque black background. On the lower picture, the terminal have transparency effect => it will not be as black as opaque black ...
As I understand, font patching depend on linux distribution not Desktop Environment ... so Ubuntu/Xubuntu and Arch have their own way managing font rendering. Xfce just use the font.
I pretty sure that on upper picture, the font have Full hinting while the lower picture, the font have Slight or None hinting.

May I ask are u a developer of xfce?
I think the developers know best perhaps some xfce devlopers can see the difference.
I checked all the setting rgb hinting etc, they seem ok. Perhaps I forgot to install something, It's a fresh installed os but it just stays grey.

Nop, I'm not a Xfce dev :-p
Simply an user that have some experience with linux and xfce.
If you want a "real" developper, well, be patient ... some day, someone may come in this thread ...

Gnome enables LcdFiltering by default, it's an xsettings property using by gtk drawing. We don't do that because it can also lead to blurry fonts sometimes. In 4.10 you will be able to set this with a hidden property.
