Xinerama + compositing -> shadows above windows, reversed stacking

Hi! I'm seeing a strange issue when I extend (and only extend, not just clone) my desktop to a second monitor with compositing enabled: shadows appear on top of their windows (except terminal windows, and I suppose possibly others with transparency enabled), and the focused window is drawn beneath the others.

Example with second monitor enabled and a terminal on top:

Example with single monitor and terminal on top:

I'm using Xfce 4.8.1 on up-to-date Arch Linux on a Cr-48.

It seems like it might be something silly and simple. I don't have a clue where I'd start looking in the xfwm source to find it, though, so I thought I'd ask here!
