unmounting USB flash drive

hi.

i don't know if this has been discussed before, but i have a strange problem here:
when i want to unmount my USB flash drive, it says, that there is still data to be written on the drive.
but when i click ok, the usb flash drive seems to be not mounted. the symbol is still on the desktop, but when i right click it, it gives me the mount-option...

i'm coming from gnome, and there it was simple: the symbol was not on the desktop any more after unmounting.

by the way: i use LMDE XFCE
