XFCE (countdown) timer applet

I have installed xfce TODAY per Linus' comments about Gnome 3. All went well with the install and I'm in the learning curve mode at the moment.

I do have one question, however.

At:

http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel- … mer-plugin

I d/l'd the latest timer as:

xfce4-timer-plugin-0.6.2.tar.bz2

moved the zip'd file to /home/XFCE-stuff and unpacked it, etc. But when I tried to

./configure

I received one "error" after another. First I didn't have build-essential installed and then another package and then another and finally I had to give up.

This is the latest terminal output:

checking for libxfcegui4-1.0 >= 4.2.0... not found
*** The required package libxfcegui4-1.0 was not found on your system.
*** Please install libxfcegui4-1.0 (atleast version 4.2.0) or adjust
*** the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
*** installed the package in a nonstandard prefix so that
*** pkg-config is able to find it.

I tried and tried to find a libxfcegui4-1.0 or better (more recent) but to no avail.

Until I installed XFCE this morning, I used Gnome and Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal). Any help will oblige me. Thanks for your time in reading this.
