I've installed the timer applet but there is no display. Just a blank button. It's also flaky in clicking ... no options and the "start timer" only comes up sometimes. I suspect I'm missing an icon package?

This plugin displays a gauge here, no icon. Right click -> properties to set the options. (Xfce 4.8)

I think what you are getting is the "right thing". I get a blank button. Just tried again and no amount of clicking left/right/whatever gives any response at all. No menu. No Icon.
To get rid of this I have to log out and manually edit the config files and delete the sessions. Not good.
I just tried to reinstall xfce4-timer and xfce4-goodies ... did a complete removal and install. No difference.
Also checked the /usr/lib/...xfce4-timer binary using ldd and it appears that all the deps are accounted for.
Any other ideas? I really need a alarm other that 'at' in a terminal

I use the Alarm Clock applet from http://alarm-clock.pseudoberries.com/ and find it works very well. It's written for Gnome, but works just as well in XFCE.

Any advice in this post is worth exactly what you paid for it.

THanks for that. Just installed it and it seems to be working fine.
Still wondering what the problem with the xfce4 version is
