Global shortcut keys to adjust Pulseaudio volume

I've got an analogue-to-digital converter connected to the S/PDIF out of my motherboard and only by using Pulseaudio and choosing "Digital Stereo" on the Pulseaudio panel I can adjust the volume level.

Is it possible to have global shortcut keys to adjust Pulseaudio volume? Do I need a keyboard with multimedia keys for this? Or can I use ALSA instead of Pulseaudio in this case?

Thanks.
