[Solved] skype

i moved from kde to gnome when kde4 came out, now my old p4 machines will only run gnome fallback in suse 12.1.. time to move on from the over complicated once more.. i have most of the apps i am looking for working with xfce.. with a daughter in sweden and i in the usa it would be great to get skype working with xfce.. this is not my only linux machine and i have skype working with the same usb webcam/mic combo with ubuntu 10.04 and suse 12.1 gnome fallback. skype opens and finds the webcam with no problem.. when it comes to the mic nothing is working, now the other systems use pulseaudio and not alsa.  i reckon that there is something that i am missing with alsa, since i can not find an input file to load the mic. any ideas how to get the mic working?  i am running suse 12.1 xfce.

Re: [Solved] skype

It's not xfce specific question ...
Try to enable any Input/Capture channel with the Xfce mixer plugin or using alsamixer command (press F4 to go in the capture channel or F5 to see all channels)

Re: [Solved] skype

skype>options>sound says pulseaudio but if you open the mixer all the pulseaudio devices only show a master no mic. only the alsa mixer shows a mic. i tried to change the mixer in skype but pulse is the only one offered.

Re: [Solved] skype

Try searching for your hardware specific configuration may be ? Also, try asking on Opensuse forum.
I my case, in the Skype's Sound Device > Microphone : I don't have alsa nor pulse, just the hardware (HDA Nvidia STAC92xx Analog (hw:0,0)

Re: [Solved] skype

got it working. went to yast>hardware>sound>other> pulseaudio no. then in skype>options>sound> select the mic drop down list and found my mic and selected it.
