[Solved] Preventing multiple instances of an application

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the world of XFCE and have to say what a breath of fresh air.  I should have made the switch sooner.

I'm going to be setting up a laptop for my mother (Xubuntu 11.10) and was wondering if there is any way you can prevent the panels from opening multiple instances of an application?  For instance, she uses Skype and I could see her repeatedly hitting the panel to bring up the application before she realizes its minimized to a notification area.

Hope that makes some sense.  Thanks for help!!
