should xfce notifiy me when there are updates available?
if i run settings|software settings, and then run 'check now', i have a lot of updates available, but there is nothing in the notifications area to indicate this. i have it configured to check daily.
i am running 4.8.6.

I assume you are running Fedora and refer to PackageKit. Unfortunately the new PackageKit only works in GNOME.
Please have a look at http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showth … p?t=264726 for a quick hack. For Fedora 17 we are working on something more mature.
Xfce maintainer for Fedora.

I'm running Fedora 19 right now and this still appears to be an issue. Can we still not get the update notification icon when using XFCE?
Thanksl

This is really a Fedora issue not Xfce. You could ask on the Fedora Xfce mailing list - https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce
But you can always run 'yum update' in a terminal as root to get updates. Personally I prefer that, I always disable auto updates.
