compositing managers?

Hi

I've been using Xfce with Compiz on Gentoo for quite some time and I can't live without desktop effects anymore.
I'm an effects junkie now.

Compiz state is miserable, it is being removed from portage.

Has anyone tried other compositing managers with Xfce? With effects I mean, wobbly windows and stuff.

Mutter/KWin? I haven't found ANY info about that.

Thanks!

Re: compositing managers?

Maybe I'm a bit late to post this, but Mutter works quite well with Xfce. Sure, Mutter doesn't have that much fancy effects as Compiz and no configuration options. The biggest advantage of Mutter is that it's light on resources and more stable than Compiz. wink

The most serious problem with native Xfwm4 compositing is that I experience tearing in videos (I use Radeon open source driver). It would be great to have Opengl compositing with Xfwm4 due to better integration. Could it be possible to 'steal' code from Mutter and add Opengl compositing to Xfwm4? Or would it be too much work?
