[Solved] Can't switch desktops with mouse wheel anymore and only 4 desktops

Hey there,

I'm using xfce for 1-2 months now, and have switched 3 of the computers I'm using to it already! Great work!

On my main workstation, I'm having a problem though:

After a reboot I can not switch the desktops anymore using the mouse wheel.

Also, the number of desktops is limited to four, whatever I do. If I right-click on the desktops in the panel, then select "Workspace settings" and try to reset the number of desktops to >4, the number changes, but no desktops are added in the field below the selector buttons.
Ggl returned something on the xfce4-dot-files and their permissions, but that also didnt help.
I tried adjusting the number of desktops in xfwm4.xml like so: <property name="workspace_count" type="int" value="9"/>, but that also does not change anything.

I am running xfce 4.8.0.3 on debian testing.

What can I do to trace down the problem?

Best regards,
gt

Nothing? I figure I'm going to delete my .config/xfce4, then... :-( Probably it's going to work again afterwards.

If I find out what it was, I'm going to come back and tell. :-)

I had vaguely similar problems today. I logged out and when I logged back in I only had one workspace instead of the set four, I couldn't resize windows etc. I reinstalled xfwm4 and ran it from the terminal after which everything started working normally (if this helps, remember to save your session when you logout).

A bit late...but the config for xfwm4 you find (and can delete/rename) in ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfwm4.xml

Re: [Solved] Can't switch desktops with mouse wheel anymore and only 4 desktops

Well,

since I couldn't find anything else to resolve it, I deleted my .config/xfce4 folder today.

Problem still present.

Only after I deleted other files in my /home that I found by searching for *xfce* and after deleting my .cache, it was gone.

Now everything is working again regarding the desktops and switching them.

Thanks for your help, everybody, and sorry for now being unable to trace down what caused the problem, after deleting .config/xfce4 didn't solve it, I kinda when havoc on xfce files and folders. The only thing I can say is, that it was not in .config/xfce4.

Best,
grandtheft
