Installation instructions, helping with testing Xfce 4010

Hi,

the link on the Wiki to the installation instructions is broken (http://www.xfce.org/download/building).

I would like to help with testing the upcoming release and would therefor like to install the new version of Xfce parallel to the old 4.8 version.
Is this possible? If yes, could you please direct me to the instructions?

Thanks
Karl

It is possible, but make sure you don't include old libraries.

Will fix the redirect rule for the old website link, but the page moved here: http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/building

Yes that is a bug in 0.50.0 which i used to pack the tarballs, should be fixed in 0.50.1 which i'll use for next release.

One other small but irritating bug I found was the fact that "X-XFCE-SettingsDialog;" had to be added to the "Categories" entry in the .desktop files to make preferences dialogs show up in the settings manager, this means manually going through my local copies and adding the entry.

Well all Xfce components are shown in the dialog, as it used to be. Unless you've made .local modifications to those desktop files.

Re: Installation instructions, helping with testing Xfce 4010

As I said its my local copies that are affected the categories line from say the window manager tweaks from 4.6 is:
Categories=X-XFCE;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-XfceSettingsDialog;
where as from 4.10 is:
Categories=XFCE;GTK;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-XFCE-SettingsDialog;X-XFCE-PersonalSettings;

Its the addition of the "X-XFCE-PersonalSettings;" entry that has been added.
This as I said is not a major problem and as a lot of people will not use a local copy will never know, I just thought I would point it out as a "gotya".

The local copy in this instance was just copied from the original /usr/share/applications folder to my local folder with no modifications.

Just installed xfce4-mixer version 4.8.0  which runs fine but the panel plugin doesn't display properly and the 'mute' icon seems to be missing
