[Solved] Tab titles on Gnome apps (Nautilus, gedit) are completely black

hi there,

maybe you can help me out!

I'm using XFCE 4.8.0.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 (precise). I guess since my last update I got the problem, that on Gnome applications like Nautilus or gedit, the titles of tabs remain completely black (in Nautilus usually the location is displayed, on gedit it's the location and name of the file you're editing - tooltips do work, though!). It seems it's a appearance configuration option, I guess it's just black font on black background.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction where to finetune those display options?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Kai

What happens if you change the theme? That's under Application Menu, Settings, Appearance.

I have had the problem for about 2 weeks or so.  It's mainly effecting evolution (for me).  From what I understand it was caused by a GTK update.  The only way I have been able to resolve the issue was to change the Theme style to Adwaita or a dark theme such as Dark Mint.

Dark Mint is here:

I started a thread on a Debian forum here.

Evidentially the problem is related to the update from 2 to 3 of GTK.

Thanks for your answers!

I did some more research myself today. Looks like you're right, it's due to gtk2/gtk3 update.

There are a few themes that are gtk3-compatible, like Greybird or Bluebird (I think they are from the shimmer-themes package).

Here's a thread I found helpful, it's about how to set a fallback theme, which at least solves my problem with the black and unreadable tabs:

Thank you all and have a great time!

I found several glitches in nautilus when I activated the Bluebird theme in xubuntu 12.04 (xfce4). I installed this (newer?) version of Blurbird from here:

Soooooo much better smile
