Thunar (and most FMs) has this feature that allows you to select an icon (any icon) in your file browser and then press a letter. As soon as the letter is pressed, the focus/highlight is moved to an icon that starts with the same letter. For example if I have several icons in my window or on my desktop and I select one that is named let's say "Trash Bin" and I press 'q', the file manager will move the highlight to an icon that has a name starting with 'q', like "quota" for example. This is a great feature when there is a large number of files in the particular window. I am not seeing the same behavior in xfdesktop, is that something configurable, or is it not done yet?
