Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Hello,

After upgrading to Xfce 4.10 all keyboard shortcuts involving a normal letter (rather than e.g. F-Keys) are not working anymore. The problem seems related to my keyboard layout (I’m using the German Neo layout), as the shortcuts do work when using de-nodeadkeys. Even more interesting, if I switch the layout in the keyboard settings dialog from Neo to de-nodeadkeys and back to Neo it works again for the current session.
I already tried resetting the keyboard settings and even all Xfce settings, using the “Use system defaults” option, setting the keyboard model, manually reassigning the shortcuts, none of that solved the issue. Switching to another layout is not an option. Can you give me any hints to solve or workaraund the problem? Please feel free to ask if you need further information.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Similar problems in Xubuntu 12.04 with Xfce 4.10 : some shortcuts involving ALT plus some non standard keys (Space, Print) don't work in one PC (and do in another !).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit : solved by switching to "no dead key" keyboard layout.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

I have same problem in Gentoo::xfce4-4.10

I set <Super>+# to switch to workspace #'s and <Super>+<Shift>+#'s to move windows to workspace #.  Now <Super>+#'s moves the windows, and <Super>+<Shift>+#'s don't do anything and symbols above number keys (!@#$...) are inputted in the program.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Adding my duplicate post here...

Upgrade to 4.10 - "complex" keyboard shortcuts no longer work

On 4.8 I used to have a bunch of shortcuts in the form:

<Super>+<Alt>+<Shift>+LETTER

They didn't function post-upgrade so I opened the shortcuts editor to "re-assign" them to see if they would work but I noticed that the editor no longer "sees" these complex shortcuts, not sure if this is expected behaviour or not but I thought I'd point it out.

I don't need a fix, just using a simplified shortcut :-)

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Keyboard shortcuts also stopped working (right) here @ Gentoo XFce 4.10.0

Namely Shift+Fx key not working, and is always treated as Fx key only.

Both if I tried to manually edit xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml as well as in the GUI.

In the GUI, when I press Shift, "SHIFT_L" shows up, then I keep Shift pressed and press F4, then SHIFT_L disappears, F4 appears and a warning message that F4 is already used.

Quite annoying regression. How to fix it (except going back to 4.8)?

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Keyboard shortcuts like <Super><Ctrl>(z|x|c|v|b) stopped working at my system after update to 4.10. Also <Alt>Printscreen doesn't work anymore.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

jere, have you tried already removing the original ~.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml ?
Also Alt+Print is maybe supposed to be for the kernel commands.
I have for my screenshots 'Print' for full desktop, 'Super+Print' for active window and 'Primary+Print' for selecting a region.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

I can't set any Shift+Super+LETTER shortcuts after removing the xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml file - it's the same. I have already set the Super+Printscreen hotkey instead of the Alt+Printscreen, but it's just that I have to use Windows at work and I would like to use the same hotkeys for similar stuff so that I don't have to think about it smile

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Hi guys. Ubuntu 12.04 here, had the problem of no keyboard shortcuts not working. Anything new I would set would not work as well. Tried deleting everyhing and putting in some new. logging in/logging out and other combinations of stuff mentioned.

This was my solution:
1. Log out
2. alt+ctrl+F1 (tty1)
3. log in as your username
4. rm -rf ~/.cache/sessions/*
5. logout from tty1
6. alt+ctrl+f7 (or f8, depends)
7. log in to xfce
8. restore default kbd shortcuts (may not be needed?)
9. enjoy.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Slackware 14 and XFCE 4.10
Can not set Ctrl+F#

I press Ctrl+F7 to use xrandr to set my primary display. Works find with Super+F7 (or Fn+F7 on my laptop).

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Same problem with ubuntu 12.10.

It also afects the Alt-Gr key.

I upgraded from 12.04 and shortcuts worked, in fact, they are still recognized in the short-cut list under the keyboard management app, but no longer usable.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

I have xubuntu 12.04 fresh installed. Customized shortcuts do not work for me with automatic login. When I log out and in again, they work.

How can I fix this problem?

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

UBUNTU 12.04.2 x86  |  XFCE 4.10 | Lightdm 1.2.3-0ubuntu2 lightdm-gtk-greeter

Shortcut does not work when "Caps Lock" is activated .  last update probably added distinction between lower and uppercase keys.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Same problem , solved using xbindkeys for shortcuts not directly working.
Yes, it a bit confusing having two places to store shortcuts.

Hope this will be fixed...

I thought I had two as well, but wasn't sure. Is... is one for "system" (/desktop environment) shortcuts and the other for activities such as running applications and the like?

I guess you can add me to the "confused" list. wink

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

I'm using a different program, xbindkeys, to configure keyboard shortcuts instead of using xfce keyboard shortcuts utility.
Some standard shortcuts works well even if configured with xfce standard tools, but for example I had problems with multimedia keys and started using xbindkeys for some shortcuts...

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

Hello,

Most of the issues you describe should be fixed in the git master branch of libxfce4ui. I still need to release libxfce4ui 4.10.1. I need some testers for this stable branch before releasing. So grab the code on git (xfce-4.10 branch of libxfce4ui) or from this tarball and please confirm if it works fine after restarting your session. Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Jérôme

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts not working

I am using package that comes with my distribution (XFCE 4.8.0.3 on Debian 7.0).

I wanted to share the solution that works for me. When I have two keyboard layouts installed (LT and RU) then keyboard shortcuts like CTRL+Letter and ALT+Letter stop working in KDE applications only (Krusader, Kate, etc.). Keyboard shortcuts like CTRL+. or CTRL+F1 or ALT+F4 are working fine. When I remove RU keyboard layout then all shortcuts work in KDE applications just fine.

By the way only KDE applications are affected. Gnome and XFCE applications are working fine all the time.

My solution was to remove RU keyboard layout.

This solution works,
thank you.

I want to complement the method outlined above.
It is enough to move RU layout out of the 1st position.

Maybe this is the most simple form to grasp: "Make sure that EN layout is on top of the layout list".

Checked on XFCE 4.12.
