Single-click desktop setting persistence

First time post, so hello all.

Recently upgraded a box to Ubuntu 4.12 and longing for a decent (cough, cough) desktop, I decided to compile Xfce 4.10.  After clearing out the old .config directory everything has worked superbly except for enabling single-click.  To clarify, the behavior setting in the Thunar's preferences works just fine so I am referring only to selection/activation of icons on the desktop with a single-click.

Following the Applications Menu -> Settings -> Settings Manager -> Desktop I click on the Icon Tab and select the "Single-click to activate items" check box.  I also check "Automatically save session on logout" on the General tab for Session and Startup.  The single-click will function for the session, but after logging out and I log back on and it does not.  When I re-visit the settings, I find that the boxes enabling single-click are still checked.

Thanks in advance.
