To remove only the icon, right-click and set it in its properties.
To remove the menu, go to the panel properties and remove it from there.

no, in the properties you can't.

True.
Create a 1px image and select it as the icon. Just a suggestion (I didn't try).
That doesn't work (leaves a square).

The Application Menu is in fact a plugin. So to remove it, go in the Panel preferences, then "Items" tab, then remove it with the "-" button.
Xfce is NOT Xubuntu. Bugs in Xubuntu don't mean that Xfce is buggy ...

He wants to remove only the logo.
tivatranquio, you can open a bug report for xfce4-panel with a wish-list to be able to show only text on the menu plugin.
But a good and maybe better solution is just create an image with the text you want in GIMP and use it for the button.

i think that this solution will not work because the applet shrink the image... but i'm not sure

It works fine: http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screensho … 4324pm.php
(just a quick, completely non designed image I made with imagemagick ;-)
Now more seriously, I made one with GIMP. Unless you want something styled, it doesn't look perfect as it doesn't obey the theme's selected style, for instance.
