For some odd reason, after a kernel update today VLC media player will no longer play DVDs. When I try, RAM and CPU goes way up and the DVD will not play. So I tried to open the same DVD with Movie Player and it works fine.
My question is - in Removable Drives and Media, under Multimedia, I used to have VLC selected to open when a DVD movie was inserted. I changed that to use Movie Player instead (/usr/bin/mplayer) but when inserting a DVD nothing happens, even after a reboot.
Am I doing something wrong? And does anyone know what the problem might be with VLC?
Using Xubuntu; Xfce 4.10; VLC 2.0.1
