I see no reason for the Notification Area

Hi,

ver 4.8 on Xubuntu.

I do not like the Notification Area [NA]. On a hi-res laptop it makes the icons it contains much too small and is unwieldy (hard to use), it makes things more complicated. I do not see the use for it and IMO people should have the option to opt out of it.

I thought for a long time that with Xubuntu 12.04 all clip board managers were not working, then I realized that for some mysterious reason clip board manager icons were relegated to the NA...if you want to see the network manager it won't show by default with out having NA on you panel (I hope that's changed by default - it must of caused much hair pulling for people).

It's a complication not a simplification. I do not see the reason for it. Is there a way to turn all functionality associated with it?

Thanks,

Lee G.
