XFCE misbehaving and causing a problem I cant work out

So I installed arch a few days ago. I followed the beginner section on the arch wiki and eventually had a arch system running to my satisfaction. I decided to go with XFCE as my window manager and GDM as my display manager. (Additionally I have Gnome 3 installed just to test it out).

So yesterday I decided to test out qingy as my display manager so I replaced GDM with it and rebooted. Qingy was very buggy for me (Anything I wrote was written out twice (So if I wrote root it was entered as rroooott, very annoying). So I remover qingy and reinstalled QDM as that had worked previously. I rebooted, started up xfce as my session and saw my desktop load (I saw the wallpaper, icons and panels) a second later the screen goes black, I see the login prompt on console for a split second and then I am back in GDM. This happens every time I try to start xfce as my session now. So currently I am using Gnome 3 but I'd rather go back to my xfce setup.

I got the errors logged and here is the log file > http://justpaste.it/16ct

Is there any way to fix this?

Re: XFCE misbehaving and causing a problem I cant work out

I got this problem once. I think that the problem is that xfce is started the wrong way and crash. Then you get back to the login screen.
Make sure that you start Xfce with Gdm as in the FAQ : http://wiki.xfce.org/faq#is_it_possible … e_with_dms

And also take a look in ~/.xsession-errors

Xfce is NOT Xubuntu. Bugs in Xubuntu don't mean that Xfce is buggy ...

I set up GDM as per the faq you linked me to. No dice. However I see a error pop up on the bottom of the .xsession-errors (which can be seen here http://justpaste.it/16e9) which seems to give a clue

whoops, I accidentally all over the justpasteit so heres the correct link > http://justpaste.it/16f8

The specific error which I think might be causing this is:
[1507:1521:57657934:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(489)] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1

Re: XFCE misbehaving and causing a problem I cant work out

Those errors seem to come from your Gnome session and not xfce's one :

/etc/gdm/Xsession: Setup done, will execute: gnome-session
...
gnome-session[1353]: WARNING: Failed to start app: Unable to start
...
(gnome-shell:1407): Clutter-WARNING **: Attempting to remove actor of type 'ShellGenericContainer' from group of class 'StBoxLayout', but the container is not the actor's parent.

(gnome-shell:1407): Clutter-CRITICAL **:

Normally, .xsession-errors is reset when you log in (by any DE). So log in xfce sesion, wait it crash and return to login screen. Switch to console mode (Ctrl+alt+F1). Log in and save .xsession-errors by renaming it. Get back to login screen (ctrl+al+F7/F8)
