xfce4-panel not responding ?

Hi all,

I've just installed a new freebsd box and with that i've installed xfce4 via ports :

cilia@enki:/home/cilia%uname -a
FreeBSD enki.noway.out 9.0-RELEASE-p3 FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE-p3 #0: Tue Jun 12 02:52:29 UTC 2012 root@amd64-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64

The installation via ports (portmaster) went well. However, when i start xfce (with startx, the .xinitrc has been edited as recommended in the freebsd handbook), the xfce4-panel component is there, but not responding. I can see a top margin dedicated to the panel, i can see the xfce4-panel process in top. Whenever I try to edit the panel settings with the settings manager, an error occurs ; all the other settings dialogs work well.

Failed to show the preferences dialog
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I can't seem to find any relevant log, being Xorg.0.log or messages.

Any hints or ideas are welcome !
