In Gnome2, I was only able to have shadows on the top.
I've been playing with XFCE4 and I like it, but I'm wondering if shadows are casted for all sides, top, left, right, and bottom.
I know how to add shadows by enabling compositing, but I don't want to waste the time emerging if I can't do this considering I'm using gentoo.
Edfit: Someone suggested conky, now I've never used conky as I've just been strick business with the os(miniaml theming).
I've been using Linux since 2000, however like I've said I neer cared for efects but I do want to make my current desktop pretty considering I've spent 6K on hardware.
Anyone know a simple conky config for a bottom and top panel?

I don't know if you can get shadow as such, but you could use panel themes (backgrounds) to make the panels look more 3D? here are some themes with varying styles and colours: http://xfce-look.org/usermanager/search … n=contents
