Xubuntu 12.04 XFCE4.8 switching sound output from panel?

Hi,

I have a set of USB Headphones and a set of speakers which I switch between depending on what I'm listening to. In ever other desktop environment i've tried I usually have an icon which will give me some basic options like volume and switching the output.

I have a volume icon with a volume slider and controls for the music player and sound settings which takes me to the PulseAudio volume control which as far as I can tell doesn't have an option to change which source to output sound? I can change it for an individual application when the application is running but not overall.

How can I change the sound output?

Thanks.

Try installing pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control) from the software centre. It should give you more options.

I already have Pulse Audio control but as far as I can tell you cant switch output device for all just by application when the application is running. Or have I missed something?

I don't have a similar setup to test, but do you not have the option to select which output device on the "Output" tab?

As far as Pavucontrol is concerned: each application uses the output set as fallback under "Output Devices" tab unless a per-application setting is made otherwise under "Playback" tab (in which case the later overrides the former). If a device is disconnected and reconnected: the "Set as fallback" change is reset.

Considering a panel option to switch sound output: http://www.webupd8.org/2014/02/sound-sw … cator.html

FYI.
The newer versions of the pulseaudio-plugin now allow you to select the source from the plugin itself.

What version exactly?

I have 0.2.4-1 and it lacks this feature.
