Hello, I am having a problem where VLC opens with what appears to be Russian menus. I do not read or speak Russian so this is very annoying. I am having this problem on two completely different computers. One laptop running linux mint xfce an the other, a desktop running xubuntu. Any assistance anyone can offer would be very appreciated.
Edit: upon further searching, I came across this:

adding env LANGUAGE=en vlc %U did not solve my issue. Which then lead me to find this:

Voila! problem solved. It turns out that VLC did not like my use of the 'Symbol' font as my main font type.
