xfce4-weather-plugin 0.8.3 (2013-02-18) released

now that xfce4-weather-plugin 0.8.3 (2013-02-18) has been released. When will we see the new installation RPMs for those of us who don't have compile environments on our machines?

That's probably a question that would be better asked of the people who create/maintain your particular OS, I would think.

But there is a possibility that you will not have to wait. For example, I found a PPA and all I had to do was add it to my sources list and my distro's Update Manager took care of the rest and I appear to have all newest Xfce components. The fact that you mentioned "RPMs" tells me that you aren't using the same OS that I'm using (Mint 14) or any other kind of Ubuntu-/Debian- based one and are, instead, using something like Mandrake/Mandriva or another one that uses the .rpm package format - so I guess the PPAs won't work on your OS. But perhaps there is something similar?

MDM

FYI, .rpm packages (Redhat Package Management) is used by RedHat-based distros, such as Fedora and CentOS.  I don't know if Mandriva is based on Redhat or not, but I do know it uses the .rpm format.

Hi,

I don't know which distribution you are using...

I use Fedora 18 and the RPM for xfce4-weather-plugin version is yet still on 0.8.2.

You can try to compile the new version 0.8.3 (download and see INSTALL file) but I have problems with gtk (see here).

Maybe you'll have more luck !

Re: xfce4-weather-plugin 0.8.3 (2013-02-18) released

A quick search shows that it appears to be available in an .rpm package for PCLinuxOS, Arch Linux, OpenSUSE, on a berliOS page (not sure if that's a distro or not, since it lists both .rpm and .deb packages), an alt lnux Sisyphus page, and possibly more since those were just the results that I noticed on the first page of what appears to be a rather large list when I did a Google search for "xfce4-weather-plugin 0.8.3 rpm" (without quotes).

Were we to assume that the OP has one of the above OS - and we might, since he or she did not feel like burdening us with the knowledge of which distro he/she is actually using, lol - then we could rightfully answer the question with "That is already the case."

So... lintek, would you like to tell us which distro you are asking about?

Regards,
MDM

Oh. I guess there isn't and rpm for your distro yet, then.

I did find these web pages (via Google):

http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/NUQmuuvBnfq0k6so1iCh

(Something about Fedora SCM commits, whatever that is, and "A file has been added to the lookaside cache for xfce4-weather-plugin:".)

http://marc.info/?l=fedora-extras-commits&m=136129121822052

(Which is all complete geek to me, but "Subject:    [xfce4-weather-plugin] Update to 0.8.3".)

http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/repo/pkgs/xfce4-weather-plugin/xfce4-weather-plugin-0.8.3.tar.bz2/755b33089c02afe88abb39253003a7f3/

Which has 0.8.3 and is a Fedora repo. But it's a compressed file, one of the things that one has to "install" (it's got "install" as one of its many files, I believe), so I don't know if that would help. Raphos, is that the same thing that you tried to install/build/? on your Fedora system?

I do hope that you folks can figure it out, because I really like the new weather applet - it's worth a bit of hassle, IMHO.

Best of luck,
MDM

Slightly off-topic but Xubuntu 13.04 will have version 0.8.3 of the weather plug-in when it's released on 25th April.

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

I tried to compile the package at http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org and the package located here http://archive.xfce.org.

Both give me the same GTK error.

The marc.info link is language from the planet Mars for me too.
