Background issue

Hello,  First post here.

I recently switch to Xfce.  Love the layout.  Got an issue with the background though.
I want the background to change like a slideshow through the pictures in a single folder and have it set that way through setting>desktop>background>image list.  when I first boot up, I see one of the pictures as the background for a few seconds, then it changes to one of the included default backgrounds.  When I right click on the desktop and click "change background" I see the included backgrounds and can change it there but I want the slideshow.
I feel like there are two things trying to control the background. 
I'm using  xfce version 4.8 and ubuntu 11.10.
