Thanks everyone! - Mark.
Howdy! I'm using the Xfce desktop of course.
Ignorant newbie question: Can Evolution (part of Gnome proj.) be used in the Xfce desktop? What about Claws? What do you think of them (especially reliability)?
What I want:
- separate file for each message - in other words, not MBOX format! (Maildir or MH are fine, I think - discuss?)
- clear migration from Thunderbird - in other words, away from MBOX.
- multiple accounts.
- incoming & outgoing mail go into same mailbox (yes, that's the way I like it).
- threading with all threads permanently expanded.
I will be writing & sending & receiving & reading mail from my Mint guest inside a virtual machine.
I will be writing & reading mail in my WinXP host outside the virtual machine.
The WinXP host doesn't have networking (yes, it's possible).
The mailboxes will be in a shared folder accessible in guest & host.
Comments?
Evolution experiences?
Claws experiences?
Thanks Much - Mark.

hoagie, how are my questions: "Can Evolution (part of Gnome proj.) be used in the Xfce desktop? What about Claws?" unrelated to Xfce? I appreciate your recommendation to RTFM. Do you know where I can find a FM for Xfce?

You can use any software you want with any desktop you want :-)
You'll have a different "integration level", maybe some features may work only when using a software with "his" desktop...
In some cases, you'll need to install many many libraries, but basically you can anyway.
For other questions , I would use more specific forums...(anyway I use thunderbird and cannot help you more, sorry)

Thank you, Paolo. I didn't know you could mix applications between desktops. Ciao - Mark.

Claws may lack the polish of Evolution but is more flexible and can certainly do one message/file (I do). Never got that to work with Evolution. I think the rest is also possible but am not as specific as you so install & try

Thanks all. I installed Claws in my Linux Mint guest and also in my Windows host, and both are running fine. Everything works. Now all I have to figure out is how to get them to put the mail handling system (#mh) in the VMworks shared folder (i.e., 'C:\shared' in Windows, '/mnt/hgfs/shared/' in Mint).
Thanks for the help - Mark.
