I switched from Unity to xfce today, and noticed that refresh in ddd and xterm is very slow. I bring up an xterm, cat .bashrc to the screen just so there is some text being displayed, and drag another window (in this case it was chrome, but it doesn't seem to matter) in front. As the text is exposed in the xterm it refreshes very slowly. ddd behaves similarly, only worse if that's possible.
If I do the same experiment with Unity it refreshes just fine, so I'm assuming it as to do with the window manager.
Any suggestions on how to fix the refresh issue? This is a deal breaker with xfce as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks.

Since you just switched distros, is your graphics driver properly installed?

I didn't switch distributions, I just installed xfce on top of Ubuntu. If I switch my environment back to Ubuntu/Unity when I login xterm and ddd refresh just fine, but logging in with xfce as my environment they're slow. I presume they're both using the same device drivers.
