Is there some way I can use custom icons for symlinked folders on my desktop? When I try to change the icon, I can't see any way of pointing at a different folder. Even if I just knew the folder it points at by default, I could paste my custom icons in there, but I can't seem to figure that out, either.

This feature should be available in the upcoming 4.12 release of Xfdesktop.

I don't think you can create custom icons for symlinks. Especially if you want more than one custom icon.
As an alternative, you could:
- copy the /usr/share/applications/Thunar.desktop file to your desktop and open the file for editing using a text editor (like mousepad) and:
- edit the "Name=" line to change the label of the icon.
- replace "Exec=Thunar %f" with "Exec=Thunar /path/to/directory"
- Change the "Icon=" line to point to your custom icon file
- Save the file.
You'll also want to right-click the Thunar.desktop file, select Properties and on the "Permissions" tab, check the "Allow this file to run as a program" so that you are not prompted everytime you run it.
This will open Thunar to the directory you specified on the "Exec=" line.

That worked beautifully, ToZ! And once I had one such launcher, it was quite simple to duplicate it and edit the dupe to create additional launchers. Thank you!
