GTK2/3 theme with default look?

I'm using the default xfce4 theme which must be GTK2 only. Are there any themes out there as similar as possible to the default xfce4 theme that support GTK2 and GTK3?

Adwaita (the default gnome theme) is your best bet. The package will usually be called called something like gnome-themes-standard.

Actually I found clearlooks-phenix in Gentoo's portage which is working out great.

Glad you've found a good theme. You might want to watch out for gtk 3.8 and up though because in my experience clearlooks-phenix is having some issues there - funny borders around menu bars and greyed out menus that blend into the application itself.

Re: GTK2/3 theme with default look?

Thanks Chazza.  I'm actually on 3.8.6 and so far so good.  I always notice little issues like that so I don't think I'm having the same problem.  Which gtk+ are you using?

Same gtk as you are. 3.8.6 on fedora 19. Try using a gtk3 program like system-config-printer, gnome-chess or evince and you'll notice some minor rendering issues.

Edit: As to your original question, how about zukitwo? It's a dark theme but it's actually quite clearlooks-esque. It doesn't try to flatten the ui like adwaita does and it works with the latest versions of gtk3.

You can see here the author has updated it so it works with gtk 3.8 and 3.10

Sadly clearlooks-phenix hasn't been updated for nearly a year.

Re: GTK2/3 theme with default look?

I just tried evince but I don't see anything.  I'd be happy to take a closer look if you'd like.

I tried zukitwo but there are some menu rendering problems for me and the xfce4 panel has white text on a grey background which is hard to read.

In Debian Xfce4 have also GTK3 themes (but not default installed) [gtk3-engines-xfce]

Re: GTK2/3 theme with default look?

As Chazza originally suggested, I'm starting to think Adwaita is the best choice.

Re: GTK2/3 theme with default look?

Another Adwaita fan here (Debian Wheezy, Xfce 4.8). I didn't like it at first because of its 'flatness', but after months of use I find it pleasantly easy on the eyes and non-distracting, and it's nice to have a them that doesn't turn a file-selection dialog into a zebra.

Which icon theme do you guys like with Adwaita?  I like the elementary one so far.
