4.6 - 4.8 lost MIME info

Hello,
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 XFCE 4.8
after an update of 4.6 to 4.8 the MIME info got lost.
I cant' even build new connections. The menu structur was lost as well.
fortunately I could restor the menu with choosing "use custom dialolg file"
But the MIME data base is still 'unconnected'.
It seems tha XFCE has lost the path to ../etc/xdg/
I tried different commands such as:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xfce4

or

exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session startxfce4

and

sudo ln /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu

none of them did work

libfile-mimetype-perlist and  xdg-utils are installed.

and the  /usr/share/applications/defaults.list exists and does look ok.

any ideas, suggestions?
