Some basic questions

I have chosen the xfce:dusk theme or appearance. The icon names are in black which is invisible on my desktop background. Where do you change the font color? I can't find it.

I'm slowly getting my desktop looking the way I want. How can I back up these settings?

There isn't a setting dialogue for it in standard Xfce, I think someone created one but it isn't available for all distros. Have a look at http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/advanced to create a config file that will do what you want.
