How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

I ask b/c I can't find anything in the Docs or here searching on "menu" and b/c my community finds it unhandy to have the two most commonly sought commands ("Run program" and "Log out") buried in a submenu.  I would like to move them to the top of the right-click menu--where is that file located?

Thanks.

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

I believe that its hard-coded. If you disable the display of icons on the desktop, then you will get the same menu as the main menu, which includes "Run Menu" and "Logout". Otherwise, you can create Thunar custom for those two options (though they will appear in the middle of the menu).

Thanks, I thought there might be an xml hiding somewhere.  I probably will use the Thunar Custom Action option, if I can figure out how to keep it from showing up in Thunar itself...

As I remember you can bring up Thunar and then click on Edit > Custom Actions.
Click the + and add what you want.   There is an example shown.
In Advance I choose all of the actions because I am clueless as to what they really mean.
It worked for me.

Thanks.  I have used that repeatedly to set up the context menu in Thunar, so am very familiar with by now.

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

I decided to go an easier route, in case anyone is interested: placed Run program... at the top of the Favorites of Whisker menu, so now both common actions are located in the same window (Whisker menu has a dedicated icon for logout).

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

I should have seen that.  Sometimes I wonder about myself.  I was using Synapse on the panel.  Thanks for the tip.
thunar is the one way to modify the right-click on the desktop though.

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

Hi I'm new to xfce (running debian testing+xfce4.10)
My request is simple: I use desktop right-click menu often, and especially the "applications" item, but it is embed at the bottom of this menu, how can I raise it the top?

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

You can't - its not editable (unless you change the code).

However, if you turn off the display of icons (Settings Manager >> Desktop >> Icons >> "Icon Type" = None) then you will only see the Applications menu and not the other items. Unfortunately, desktop icons will not be displayed, which might not be a bad thing if you don't use desktop icons. (I find they clutter the desktop and prefer a much cleaner look, so I always turn them off. But this is a matter of preference).

Thanks , but I want to keep my desktop icons smile
Does the "code" means source-code --> re-compile thing?

Sorry I wasn't clear, but yes - patching the code and recompiling. But first figuring out what needs to be patched.

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

If I'm understanding you correctly : 1.) This requires a lot more than editing one file. 2.) This requires a lot more than can be explained in one BBS post. But to get you going in the right direction:

/etc/xdg/menu/xfce-applications.menu

If adding entries you need to create a .desktop file

Maybe this wiki page will help. https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu . Just be diligent and you'll figure it out.

@lulzicon, thanks ,but I think that is for application menu itself, not for the whole desktop right-click menu.

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

Actually , It is easy to get used to it by click on the lower half of the desktop, then the desktop right-click menu pop"up" ,and the application menu will be at the nearest place where you right-clicked.

However, it can be improved to be editable easily ^^.

Would you just want to move the applications menu option to the top or move change the order menu groups around? I.e. Put applications menu at the top, then copy/paste, then the custom Thunar options, etc.

Re: How does one edit desktop right-click menu?

@eric_the_idiot, sort of, I follow this post because on desktop I access "application" part often, so I want this part more close to the place where I do the right-click.

ToZ,

Thanks for the "Icon Type = None" tip.  This is very helpful to me.
