[SOLVED]Thunar/udisks require root permission for mount of USB drives

This is something that had begun several weeks ago, but until now I've just put up with the prompting.

I'm attaching a screenshot of the dialog box that pops up when I click on the drive to be mounted automatically as it had been for as long as I've used Xfce/Thunar.  Now when I click on the drive to be mounted, the Authentication prompt appears.

So my question is how to get the mounting and unmoutning to be done as in the past without needing permission.  I've made the appropriate selections in the Thunar options, not sure what else needs to be done.
Debian Testing
xfce 4.10.1
udisks 1.0.5-1

Thanks,

Not a Debian user here, but looks like a policykit issue. Which display manager are you using?

BTW: according to the screenshot, the system is referencing udisks2:

Action: org.freedesktop.udisks2.filesystem-mount.....

This thread seems to be relevant. A solution is identified.

ToZ,
I'm not using a DM.  I'll look at the threads thanks.

Re: [SOLVED]Thunar/udisks require root permission for mount of USB drives

After installing gdm3, the mount and unmounting of drives was back to normal.

As noted previously I had not been using a display manager.  So I installed xdm, then wdm, but the prompting still occurred to mount and unmount USB as well as CDs and DVDs.  I then installed gdm3 and the mounting and unmounting was done without the permission prompt.  So what's installed with gdm3 that is not installed with xdm or wdm (probably other dm also) that allows mounting/unmounting without root permission?  I'll go back and re-read the threads ToZ referenced, but offhand I wouldn't think this should be DM sensitive.

I still believe its related to policykit. One needs to be running. When using gdm3, its probably starting it automatically, but not when you manually start. As a test:

ps -ef | grep polkit

...or:

ps -ef | grep policykit

...in both scenarios.
