Applications Menu locked

I am trying to make some changes in the Applications Menu of my desktop, but when I open the properties->edit menu I am unable to make any changes. If I try to mark or unmark an item, nothing happens, and when I try to add an item, same result. I am guessing that somewhere one of the configuration files has either the wrong attributes, or the wrong ownership, but I can't seem to find anything that makes a difference.

What do I need to do to make changes in my Applications Menu?

Thank you.

Re: Applications Menu locked

I found the problem. It was as I'd suspected in my initial post. The directory ~/.config/menus had root as the owner. Now that it has correct ownership, I can edit it without problems.
