Font Rendering - .fonts.config v Xfce settings

Hi,

Really liking the Xfce DE . I am using Debian Wheezy.

As suggested in other topics here http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=7028 and elswhere I have placed a .fonts.conf file in home. I have also edited the "appearance" settings in Xfce . As a matter of interest the settings that work best for me are Anti-aliasing "on", Hinting=FullSub-pixel=RGB, Lcdfilter=default. My Xfce settings match this including setting the lcdfilter as at http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/appearance

My question is in relation to the interaction of the .fonts.conf and the Xfce settings in Xfconf folder ( as effected through the Xfce settings GUI). Which takes precedence?

If Xfce settings take precedence then is there any point/advantage in the .fonts.conf file ?

Non XFCE applications may not respect XFCE settings, but will respect .fonts.conf.
.fonts.conf can also set LCD hinting, where XFCE settings doesn't.
This at least is my experience.

Thanks for your input Donald - seems logical.

PS Glanced at your blog - seems eminently understandable . Some material for me to digest at
