I'm not sure exactly what I did wrong. I accidentally clicked the system clock, causing the ugly orange Orage icon to appear. Only when I right-clicked and clicked "remove" my network indicator and battery indicator disappeared. They are no longer in the list of available items to add to the panel in the panel settings. I don't know how to get them back.
My laptop has an unstable battery connection, so I really depend on that battery monitor. And of course I need a network monitor.

Edit: there's a battery indicator in the list of panel items now, but it looks nothing like the old one did. The network monitor is still nowhere to be found.

Which distro and which version of Xfce are you running?
Do you have the indicator plugin added to the panel?

Trisquel 6.0.1, XFCE 4.8.0.3. What do you mean by "do you have the indicator plugin added to the panel"? As far as I knew I had all the necessary plugins installed until today when I accidentally removed network and battery. But the network and battery indicators don't appear in the list of items I can add to the panel.

Right-click on the panel, select Panel >> Panel Preferences. On the "Items" tab, is "Indicator Plugin" listed? If not, try adding it by clicking on the + icon.

That's exactly what I've been saying! It's not in the "Items" tab, and it's not available by clicking the + icon.

Wait, never mind. It was called "notification area". I have it back now, problem solved. Thank you.
