Hello: I just installed Xfce4. Am running Ubuntu 14.04. With the Xfce4 desktop there is a blank box that superimposes everything, on the desktop, and with applications like Firefox and Thunderbird. The box in 1/2" high and 1 3/8" wide. White and opaque. I can move it around, but not resize it, and not delete it. I would include a screen shot but the "PrntScrn" key does not work with Xfce4. Anyone know what I did wrong when installing Xfce4? And how I can remove the blank box? thank you. RB

In a terminal window, run:
xprop
...and when the cursor changed to a +, click on that window. A bunch of information will display in the terminal window that might help you identify which program is creating the box.

No cursor in the terminal. I can't type in the terminal.
I'll see if I can do everything but the "Enter" key from the 14.04 desktop, then switch to Xfce and press "Enter."

It looks like its a blank xfce4 panel. What happens if you right-click on it? Do you get the option to go to Panel->Panel Preferences? If so, you can delete it by clicking on the delete button (unless its the only one).

OK. right click > panel preferences > Panel 0
But it is the only one.
I can add second panel and delete second panel, but can't delete this one.

No, you can't delete the only panel. If you add a second panel, can you then delete the first panel?
Or, if you don't want to use any panels, simply kill the xfce4-panel process:
killall xfce4-panel
Or, if you want to use a panel, then add items to and configure Panel 0 to your liking.

Thank you very much. I killed that panel.
And thanks for this application. Make ubuntu much faster.

The PrtScn button does work in XFCE. Maybe you don't have the XFCE4 Screenshooter app installed.
