power manager stuck at 6%

starting yesterday my power manager shows 6% whether plugged in or not. I tried disabling power manager in startup and adding this  command to startup
xfce4-power-manager --no-daemon
also tried logout and reboot nothing changes. Any suggestions? I also completely removed, then reinstalled power manager and then rebooted, no change

Re: power manager stuck at 6%

Check your update history to see what (if anything) got updated yesterday. If it had been longer since you rebooted (or at least logged out and back in), then check your update history back to that point.

Also, it might be helpful to include some information in your post, such as your distro/version, version of XFCE, and version of power manager.

MDM

Re: power manager stuck at 6%

Can you post back the results of:

xfce4-power-manager --dump

---

Then, kill the power manager and run it in debug mode and look for any messages that might indicate what might be happening. To run it in debug mode, from a terminal window:

xfce4-power-manager --quit

...then:

xfce4-power-manager --debug --no-daemon

Re: power manager stuck at 6%

Can you re-do this, wait for the debug output to settle, then unplug the adaptor. Lets see if something comes up when its running on battery.

And, can also post back the results of:

upower -i $(upower -e | grep 'BAT')

...with both the laptop plugged in and running on battery?

This shows that your battery is discharging ("state: discharging") and that it is currently at 6% left ("percentage: 6%"). Full charge is 47.6579 Wh and current energy level is 3.35201 Wh.

So, xfce4-power-manager is reporting this correctly.

Try plugging it back in and run this same command again every few minutes. The "State:" value should change to "charging" and the "energy:" value should start increasing. If it does not, you may have a problem with your adaptor or connection to your laptop such that it isn't taking a charge.

Re: power manager stuck at 6%

I don't think it is really 6% as it has run all day it would have long ago shut down, unplugging and plugging just change it from 6% to 6% with a red exclamation point

Re: power manager stuck at 6%

It would be interesting to see the results of that command when the laptop is unplugged and then again after its been plugged in for 15 minutes, for comparison purposes.

Either way, I don't think this is an Xfce problem, but rather a problem with your battery or battery recognition. Xfce is just reporting what it finds.

Re: power manager stuck at 6%

Do you have another OS installed on the laptop? If so, how does what its battery/power manager report compare with what you've been seeing?

Re: power manager stuck at 6%

Update I ran on battery until it shut itself down. Now the 6% is gone and it shows 1% which is probably correct as I just plugged it in.
