Tiling to user defined regions

Tiliing allows for windows to "snap" to the edges of a computer monitor. This is great especially if you are working with multiple monitors.

But what if, instead of multiple monitors, you had one very large monitor (a 21:9 ULTRAWIDE for example). It would be awesome if you could draw regions on your screen that would allow windows to snap to those region's edges. Does this make sense? Are there any technical barriers that make impossible?
