this command brings up the follow:
[guest@localhost ~]$ exo-open --launch WebBrowser %u
[guest@localhost ~]$
(process:8017): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
Error: Failed to send command: 500 command not parseable
[guest@localhost ~]$
and firefox as preferred Webbrowser application starts not;
the same with opera or vivaldi starts the application, but brings the follow:
with Opera and also with vivaldi
[guest@localhost ~]$ exo-open --launch WebBrowser %u
[guest@localhost ~]$ libGL error: open uki failed (Operation not permitted)
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
[guest@localhost ~]$
the %u or %U brings the same results
Who knowing solutions?

Same here, with or without %u/U
$ exo-open --launch WebBrowser
(process:9038): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
It look like a firefox issue.
%u is supposed to be an url, so:
exo-open --launch WebBrowser www.domain.net
should works. Try it with qupzilla, there is no errors.

libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering

What version of Firefox?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs24/+bug/1425972
The above is the first result one gets from typing
"exo-open" error
into a Google search-box, lol.

What?! You search error messages in Google?! What would be the freakin' point of that?!

Hmm... Getting my el-cheapo Bluetooth speaker to work with my laptop in two minutes instead of however long it would have taken to create a thread, get a reply, post the information that was asked for in that reply, getting the next reply, providing the additional information that was requested and trying the first suggestion, post that the suggestion failed to work, getting a reply which asked for further information, posting that information, getting a reply that contained another solution, trying that and seeing that it worked (and, of course, posting a final message announcing that and thanking the person that helped plus adding a [SOLVED] tag to the thread title) - as an example. Now, if I'd only kept that link, lol...
BtW, does it look like the bug-report that I posted a link to might have some bearing on the OP's issue? I was hesitant to post it because I don't really have a clue (that could often be taken as a general statement ).

Solution:
open xfce4-settingsmanager, setting up firefox as preferred WebBrowser with use "Others" and search the executable on
/usr/lib64/firefox/firefox, cklick it and go works...
